|Order an Abstract of Your Driving Record|
Important! - Read this before starting your transaction.
Your driving record will not appear on-screen. Your abstract will arrive by mail. Please allow at least two weeks for delivery. To immediately download, print and save your abstract, use the MyDMV Get My Driving Record Now service (requires sign up).
Do not order your driver abstract online if you have moved without notifying DMV:
Your order cannot be canceled.
First, before you start your order, you should:
Then, begin your transaction. There are four steps you must follow to complete your order. These steps are listed below, but note that each page of the transaction will include specific instructions for the step you are on.
How to order your personal driver abstract online:

To complete your order online, you will need to have the following items:
You will also be required to enter the following information:
Your driver abstract will include the following kinds of information from your New York State DMV driver record:
For a more detailed explanation of the information on a driver abstract, see What is on a Record.
You may also print a sample abstract, which includes an explanation of license classes and common codes. Download Form DS-242.1. (Adobe Acrobat Reader required.)
Please allow at least two weeks to receive your abstract by mail. We're sorry, but express mail delivery service is not available.
Your mailing address on DMV files must be your current address. Your new documents can be sent only to the address on the DMV record. You can first change your address online, and then process this transaction. Do not order your driver abstract online if you have changed your address without notifying DMV. You cannot request that your abstract be mailed to an address different from the address on file with DMV.
If you change your address during a vehicle or driver license transaction, the change will not affect the address on your other DMV records. For example, if you changed your address when you renewed a vehicle registration, this did not change the address on your driver license record or on the registration records for other vehicles.
The DMV changes the address on both your driver license and your vehicle records only if you change your address online, or report the change on form MV-232 (Change of Address) or through the DMV Call Center. You must provide all of your vehicle plate numbers to change your address on all of the vehicle records.
Note: If you file a request with the US Postal Service (USPS) to forward mail there is no guarantee that the USPS will forward all DMV documents to the new address.
During the online transaction, you will be prompted to enter your current ZIP code. If it doesn't match the ZIP code on file at DMV, you will not be able to complete your order.
To find out about other ways to order an abstract, see How to Get DMV Records.
For additional information about changing your address with DMV, see Change Your Address or Name.
To complete your online order, you must agree to the certification in Step 2. To indicate your agreement, check the box next to the sentence "I agree to the above certification." You may not complete your order without checking the agreement box.
The text of the Certification Statement follows:
I certify that this order is for my own personal driving record. Knowingly making a false statement or concealing a material fact in this statement is a criminal offense, punishable under Penal Law Section 210.45. In addition, anyone who makes false representation to obtain any personal information from an individual's Motor Vehicles record is subject to federal criminal fines under the Driver's Privacy Protection Act (DPPA).
The fee is $7.00. This is the fee charged for an abstract order submitted electronically. There is no additional charge for using our online service. The fee for an abstract ordered by mail or at an office and processed by a DMV employee is $10.
You may pay for your abstract using one of the following credit cards:
DMV will also accept debit cards (check cards) issued by Visa® and MasterCard® if they do not require you to enter a PIN, or Personal Identification Number.
DMV uses SSL (secure socket layering), which is the industry standard for Internet commerce. It encrypts your credit card and personal information to ensure security of credit card transactions. Your credit card information will ALWAYS be encrypted during a DMV Internet Office Transaction. For more information, see DMV Privacy and Security Statement.
After you submit your transaction, you should see a confirmation page that displays an order number, the fee you were charged, and other important information about your transaction.
Be sure to write down your order number in case you need to contact us about your transaction. We will also attempt to send you an e-mail confirmation using the address that you entered on the payment screen. The e-mail confirmation will also include your order number.
If we are unable to process your transaction, you will see an error message explaining the problem. Most error messages also include suggestions for helping you to resolve the error. You will not be charged for a transaction that does not process.
Online ordering is normally available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Most orders are processed when you submit your transaction. However, some orders may be accepted and held for processing on our next business day.
