DMV EXTENDS RENEWAL DEADLINE DUE TO HURRICANE IRENE
Downstate Customers Who Need to Renew Licenses, Registrations That Expire Aug. 29 or 30 Now Have Until Sept. 2

New York State Department of Motor Vehicles Commissioner Barbara J. Fiala announced today that due to the potential impact of Hurricane Irene, all driver licenses, learner permits, non-driver identification cards and vehicle registrations scheduled to expire on August 28 or 29, 2011 are extended until Friday, September 2, 2011.

This extension applies only to residents of New York City, and the counties of Rockland, Westchester, Nassau and Suffolk. It does not apply to insurance coverage requirements. Motor vehicle liability insurance coverage must be maintained at all times during this extension period.

Also, vehicle inspections, which expire on the last day of the month, are not included in the extension.
